Websites for solicitors

People find your firm at a stressful moment. Your website has to reassure them, show what their matter will involve and cost, and make first contact feel private. Arête designs and builds solicitor websites that do all three.

The situation

Why your customers are searching.

Many law firm websites list every practice area in one menu and tuck the required price and service information away on a page that's hard to find. Clients arriving from search or a referral want three answers fast. Do you handle their kind of matter? How do fees work? Who will they deal with? For sensitive work, tone and the enquiry process matter as much as the design.

What sends them looking

  • An accepted offer, and conveyancing that needs to start quickly.
  • A bereavement that leaves someone responsible for an estate and a probate application.
  • A dismissal, grievance or settlement agreement at work.
  • A separation, divorce or disagreement over arrangements for children.
  • A business dispute, unpaid invoices or a contract to review before signing.

The problem

What costs solicitors work.

Where the work slips away

  • Big firms, national conveyancing providers and legal directories own the broad search terms.
  • Price and service information has to be published for certain services. Many sites bury it, or set it out in a way clients can't follow.
  • Many sensitive enquiries come by phone. Miss the call, or rush it, and they're gone.
  • Matters you don't handle, conflicts and cases outside your jurisdiction all eat into fee-earner time.
  • Legal content is judged on expertise and accuracy, so thin, generic pages struggle to rank or reassure anyone.

What makes customers hesitate

  • Legal fees feel unpredictable, and hourly rates make people nervous about the final bill.
  • Prospects worry about discretion when the matter is personal or involves family.
  • Has a small firm handled enough matters like theirs?
  • Some doubt they need a solicitor at all, and hope a quick free answer will do.

How it helps

What a better website changes.

  • Organises the site by practice area and client type, so people reach the right information in a few clicks.
  • Links price and service information from each relevant practice-area page as well as from the main navigation.
  • Designs enquiry forms and call routes that feel discreet and still capture what a conflict check needs.
  • Puts your solicitors, accreditations and regulatory details up front, so trust is in place before anyone gets in touch.

What you get

Practice-area page structure

A consistent template for each practice area: who it's for, how the matter works, timescales, fees and the solicitors involved.

Price and service information pages

Readable layouts for fixed fees, hourly rates, disbursements, VAT, key stages and exclusions. Written for clients, and checked by your firm against SRA requirements.

SRA badge and regulatory details

The SRA digital badge embedded using the code the SRA provides, alongside your regulatory statement, SRA number and complaints information.

Discreet enquiry forms

Short forms for each practice area that ask for the matter type and other party names for conflict checks, with a plain note on confidentiality and data handling.

Solicitor profiles

Profiles with photo, practice areas, experience, admission details and accreditations, linked from the pages where each person works.

Call-first mobile layout

Tap-to-call, office hours and any out-of-hours options on every practice page. Built for matters where people would sooner talk.

Measurement

The enquiries that count, tracked properly.

What counts as an enquiry

  • A phone call during office hours, answered promptly or returned quickly.
  • A practice-area enquiry form that captures the matter type and other party details for a conflict check.
  • A conveyancing, probate or wills quote request.
  • A booked initial consultation with a named solicitor.

What gets tracked

  • Enquiries by practice area, from forms and calls.
  • Who views your price and service information, and whether they go on to enquire.
  • Form completion rates and the questions where people abandon.
  • Calls started from mobile practice-area pages.

Worth knowing

What customers check, and the rules to follow.

What customers look for before they call

  • Price and service information that's easy to follow, for the services where it's required and ideally beyond.
  • The SRA digital badge and regulatory details, showing the firm is authorised and regulated.
  • Named solicitors with their practice areas, experience and accreditations, such as Law Society schemes where held.
  • Reviews on Google or legal review platforms that reflect the service while respecting confidentiality.
  • Plain English on how a matter works, typical timescales and what happens after first contact.

Rules worth knowing

  • The SRA Transparency Rules require firms to publish price and service information for certain services, such as residential conveyancing, uncontested probate and employment tribunal claims about unfair or wrongful dismissal, and to display the SRA digital badge.
  • Publicity must be accurate and not misleading, including about charges, so fee examples, experience claims and descriptions of outcomes need care.
  • Firms are expected to publish their complaints procedure, including how and when clients can complain to the Legal Ombudsman.
  • The SRA regulates solicitors in England and Wales. Firms in Scotland and Northern Ireland follow their own Law Society rules, so your wording should match your jurisdiction.

Questions

Websites for solicitors: your questions answered

Where should price and service information sit on a law firm website?

Somewhere easy to find. A link from the main navigation and from each relevant practice-area page is sensible. Publishing it as a web page, and not only as a PDF, helps clients read it on a phone. Your firm should confirm the final wording against current SRA guidance.

How much should a law firm's first enquiry form ask?

Just enough to route the enquiry and run a conflict check: the matter type, the other party's name and contact details. Asking for the full story at this stage can put people off, and it creates confidentiality risks. A short note on what happens next does more to reassure people than a long form.
