The situation

Why your customers are searching.

Plenty of salons run on Instagram and a booking app link. Regulars cope fine. Newcomers are left without prices, stylist information or any explanation of patch tests and deposits, and that's exactly when they're deciding whether to book. A good website answers those questions before they become a reason to go elsewhere.

What sends them looking

  • You've taken on a new stylist, therapist or barber, and their column's mostly empty.
  • Tuesdays and Wednesdays lag behind the rest of the week.
  • No-shows and late cancellations are showing up in the takings.
  • You've added extensions, lashes or a colour speciality, and it needs clients.
  • You've moved or expanded, and the locals don't know you yet.

The problem

What costs salons work.

Where the work slips away

  • Your portfolio lives on Instagram, where it's hard to browse by service or stylist.
  • A vague or missing price list puts off new clients who want to know the cost before they book.
  • The booking journey has to handle patch tests, consultations and deposits without confusing anyone new.
  • Clients rebook with a person, so marketing individual stylists matters.
  • New-client offers can pull in one-off bargain hunters who don't come back.

What makes customers hesitate

  • Worry that the stylist won't understand what they want, especially for colour or textured hair.
  • Not knowing the final price, particularly for colour or longer hair.
  • Reluctance to hand over a deposit to a salon they've never tried.
  • A sense that the salon's Instagram already does the job.

How it helps

What a better website changes.

  • Portfolio galleries sorted by service and stylist, far easier to browse than a scrolling feed.
  • Price lists show starting prices and explain what affects the final cost.
  • Stylist pages help clients choose the right person and rebook with them.
  • Patch tests, deposits and cancellation terms get explained before anyone reaches the booking step.

What you get

Portfolio by service and stylist

Galleries of your work sorted by colour, cuts, styling, lashes or treatments, with each stylist's work also shown on their own page.

Price lists that explain

Service menus with starting prices, durations and notes on what changes the price, such as hair length or colour complexity.

Stylist and therapist pages

Individual pages with specialisms, experience, examples of work and a direct link to book with that person.

Booking system integration

Your salon booking software linked or embedded, so clients book, pay deposits and get reminders in one flow.

Patch test and deposit explainers

Short, plain pages on when a patch test is needed, how deposits work and the cancellation window.

New-client landing page

A focused page for the new-client offers you run in ads, matching the ad's message and leading straight to booking.

Measurement

The enquiries that count, tracked properly.

What counts as an enquiry

  • A first appointment booked online with a named stylist.
  • A consultation or patch test booked ahead of a colour or lash service.
  • A new-client offer redeemed, then a second appointment booked.

What gets tracked

  • Online bookings started and completed from the website.
  • Bookings by stylist page and by service page.
  • Price list and portfolio views that lead to a booking.
  • Patch test bookings made ahead of colour services.

Worth knowing

What customers check, and the rules to follow.

What customers look for before they call

  • Photos of the salon's own work, grouped by service and stylist, with no heavy filters.
  • A price list with starting prices and what pushes the final cost up or down.
  • Stylist and therapist profiles covering specialisms, experience and availability.
  • Recent reviews that name stylists and services.
  • Patch tests, deposits and cancellation terms, explained in plain English.

Rules worth knowing

  • Most hair colour manufacturers instruct a skin allergy test at least 48 hours before a colour service, so your booking journey has to allow for it.
  • Deposit and cancellation terms should be fair and set out before payment, because consumer law does not allow unfair terms.
  • Results photos in ads shouldn't be filtered or edited in a way that exaggerates the effect. The ASA has ruled against it.
  • Botulinum toxin is a prescription-only medicine that cannot be advertised to the public, and ads for cosmetic interventions such as fillers must not be aimed at under-18s.

Questions

Websites for salons: your questions answered

Should a salon show prices online?

In most cases, yes. Show starting prices at least, with a note on what affects the final cost. Plenty of new clients would sooner leave than ask, particularly for colour, and prices up front make the end-of-appointment conversation easier.

Can each stylist have their own page?

Yes, and it helps. Clients rebook with a person, so a page showing a stylist's work, specialisms and a direct booking link supports both new clients and loyalty. It also gives ads a specific page to send people to when you're promoting a stylist's availability.
